Chiang Mai's Riverside district sits on the east bank of the Ping River — the opposite side from the Old City — and is centred on Charoenrat Road, Wat Ket, and the stretch between the Nawarat and Nakhon Ping bridges. This is Chiang Mai's heritage riverside: colonial-era teak houses, long-established restaurants with river views, the Night Bazaar just across the bridge on the west bank, and a handful of boutique hotels in restored wooden mansions. It's where you go for a quieter, more atmospheric evening than Nimman or the Old City's Walking Street chaos.

A scooter makes Riverside practical. The east bank is a linear strip, and the interesting spots are spread out along a couple of kilometres — walkable in pieces but tedious to do in a single evening. More importantly, a scooter gives you fast access back across the river to the Old City for temples and markets, down to the Night Bazaar for shopping, and east into San Kamphaeng district for day trips.
